Apple (finally) releases the iPhone

Well, it's finally here. The geek toy everyone's been waiting for, the Apple iPhone.

I gotta admit, this thing looks sexy. Flat screen, on-screen keypad, iPod capabilities, etc. I only hope it doesn't scratch as quickly as the average iPod.

While I'm not an Apple fanboy, I like a lot of the things they've done of late. I absolutely *love* my 30GB 5G iPod Video. And after looking at the latest Macs at the Apple Store in Denver I'd be seriously tempted to buy one were it not for me supporting Windows systems on a daily basis.

Despite this, I won't be buying an iPhone any time soon - two reasons:
  1. $500 to $600 plus a mandatory two-year contract is *insane*.
  2. Lack of provider choice - you get to deal with the singularity of suck (or should that be "cingularity" ;-) that is AT&T.
Sigh... I guess I'll just stick with my Blackberry...

Know Your Latin

Ever wanted to sound important? How about understand someone who does?

Neatorama has done a piece about famous Latin phrases and their meanings. Despite it being a "dead" language, we frequently hear Latin phrases in everyday conversation.

Of course, let's not forget my favorite pseudo-Latin phrase illegitimi non carborundum, which means "don't let the bastards grind you down"...

Another day, another dollar - server upgrade complete

Well, I finally got our general file/mail/list/web server updated to Fedora 7. I've been using Fedora for a while, and Red Hat before that. I've been interested in poking around with Ubuntu, as it looks pretty cool, but I keep coming back to Fedora for my production stuff.

It looks like I'm finally doing something useful with all this stuff. I've been running a mailing list on Mailman for the referee staff of our AYSO region, and now I've been asked by a friend to host a website for his mayoral campaign. Weeee!

My next project is to set up some forums using phpBB for both virtualoak.net and my friend's campaign (if he chooses to do so). I'll let you know once I get them online if you have an interest in playing along.
